Peter K. Haff is Professor Emeritus of Geology in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, North Carolina. His research is on physical properties of the technosphere (network of humans, human society and technology) that do not depend on details of its parts. This non-anthropocentric perspective helps reframe the understanding of our place in the world by directing attention away from individual human purpose and highlighting the forces of cooption that bind us to the technosphere.
