Aleida Assmann is an Anglicist, Egyptologist, and literary and cultural theorist. From 1993 to 2014 she was Professor for English and Literary Studies at the Universität Konstanz, also holding many visiting professorships both in Germany and abroad. The focus of her research is cultural and communicativememory. Together with Jan Assmann, she was awarded the 2018 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. Recent publications in English: Cultural Memory and Western Civilization: Functions, Media, Archives (2012) and Shadows of Trauma: Memory and the Politics of Postwar Identity (2015). Is Time Out of Joint?
